Founder and Director

Šádí Shanaáh

Šádí ShanaáhŠádí Shanaáh was born in Prague as a son of a Czech mother and a Palestinian father. He attended the first two classes of the primary school in a Palestinian refugee camp in Irbid, Jordan. He studied international relations at the Richmond American International University in London and the State University of New York, Empire State College. He earned his master degree in Contemporary European Studies at the University of Cambridge, UK.

He did internship in the Czech Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission. He worked as an adviser on foreign and European affairs to Ondřej Liška, former Minister of Education, Youth and Sport. He had helped to coordinate the project In Search of the Czech Future at the think-tank Glopolis since 2011. From 2012 he works as a program coordinator at the Prague office of the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung. He also lectures on the Middle East history and politics at the Anglo-American University in Prague.


Board of Trustees

Hassan Ezzedine (Chairman)

Hassan EzzedineHassan Ezzedine was born in Baalbeck, Lebanon and has both Czech and Lebanese citizenship. He holds master degree in journalism from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Charles University in Prague. He worked as a freelance journalist and a commentator for several Arab media: the UAE daily Al Bayan, the pan-Arabic daily Ash Sharq Al Awsat, the Kuwait TV, the magazine Araa of the Gulf research Center and Al Qabas newspaper. Some of his articles, reports and interviews were also published in the Czech media. He was the president of the Lebanese Club in the Czech Republic (2000 - 2005 and 2008 - 2010). He also translates from Czech and English into Arabic.


Nataša Kubíková

Nataša KubíkováNataša Kubíková studies at the School of African and Oriental Studies in London. She also studied at the Institute of Near Eastern and African Studies at Charles University in Prague and at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the same university. Currently, she works with the Association for International Affairs where she manages implementation of transformation projects in Egypt. She specializes in the modern history and political developments of the Middle East and focuses on Islamic political parties and the phenomenon of political Islam.



Tereza Svášková

Tereza Svášková received her diploma from the Middle East Studies at the West Bohemian University in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She stayed in Lebanon and Syria in the framework of her studies and she also spent one semester at the Institute of Social and Political Science in Lisabon as an Erasmus student. In her thesis, she focused on the wedding rituals of the Lebanese Druze community, about whose culture and history she is still very passionate.

Currently, she works as the coordinator of the university co-working center Kulturka in Pilsen, she manages the artistic residential program OPEN A.i.R., she is responsible for the Guest Service of the film festival Finále Plzeň and she translates from Arabic to Czech. She is the founder and the main organizer of the annual Festival of Arab Culture (Arabfest).


Supervisory Board

Naveed Gill (Chairman)

Naveed GillNaveed Gill is a native of the UK and was educated in Aberdeen, Scotland, with an undergraduate degree in Physics and Mathematics and a postgraduate degree in Information Engineering. He has over 15 years extensive IT and Telco experience in the Central and Eastern European region, having also previously served in the Czech Republic for Xerox as its Country Sales Manager, and later in Slovenia as the Regional Industry Solutions Manager for its entire CEE division. He led Tiscali in the Czech Republic from its launch in February 2000 (as a subsidiary of the Netherlands-based World Online International), successfully taking the company from being an unknown on the Czech market to the position of the nation's number one ISP before it was sold in 2007. He became, and still is, a well respected figure in the sphere of Internet and new media. Naveed is now predominantly focused on building the sport of Polo in the Czech Republic.

Jan Šnaidauf

Jan ŠnaidaufJan Šnaidauf currently works in the Middle East division of the European External Action Service in Brussels. Previously he served in the Policy Unit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and in the Strategy and Analyses Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Before joining public service he was a senior research fellow specialized in the Middle East at the Association for International Affairs, and Project Coordinator at the Forum 2000 Foundation in Prague. He was also active academically as a lecturer in international relations and European studies at the Metropolitan University and the Anglo-American University in Prague. For several years he appeared as a commentator of Middle Eastern affairs in Czech media. Jan Šnaidauf earned his master degrees at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London and Charles University in Prague.


Chadi El-Moussawi

Chadi El-Moussawi is a Czech-Lebanese. He currently works with Verdi Capital as a research Analyst. He previously worked 8 years at Fio banka a.s. as an equity portfolio manager. Chadi El-Moussawi graduated with MSc in Banking and Insurance at Faculty of Finance and Accounting on University of Economics in Prague. He is fluent in Czech, English, Arabic and intermediate in French.  


Advisers and "friends" of Insaan

Tanweer Ali (former chairman of the Board of Trustees)

Tanweer AliTanweer Ali is British, but has also lived in Libya, the Czech Republic, the USA and Switzerland. He holds a degree in mathematics from the University of Oxford and the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) and FRM (Financial Risk Manager) designations. Currently, he is a business lecturer with Empire State College, State University of New York. He is based with the college’s centre in Prague, but has also worked with programmes in Lebanon and the Dominican Republic. His professional background is in business and finance, having worked for over ten years in insurance, investment banking and consulting. He has served the non-profit sector in a number of roles, including three years as Chair of the Board of the Czech Organization for Aid to Refugees; and was the founding President of the Czech Association of Investment Professionals (now the Czech CFA Society). He is currently Chair of the Board of Forum 50%, an NGO dedicated to promoting the participation of women in public life in the Czech Republic, and a member of Business Advisory Network of the venture philanthropy fund NESsT.

Anastasia Shanaah (co-founder of Insaan)

Anastasia Shanaah was born in Moscow, Russia. She studied the History of Asian and African countries focusing on Arab region at the Lomonosov Moscow State University. She spent half a year on a study trip in Egypt. Since graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London, UK in the field of the History of Art/Archeology with a focus on contemporary Arab art. She also helped with the organization of an exhibition on political posters at the Centre for Contemporary Art - DOX in Prague.
